Editorial Policy

Purpose and Independence Neighbor Fire Lab provides data-driven, code-conscious guidance for outdoor fire pits and accessories. Our editorial team decides what to test, how to test it, and what to recommend. Monetization never dictates scores or coverage.

How We Choose Products We select products based on reader demand, safety relevance, and market impact across wood, pellet, propane, and natural-gas categories. We aim for a balanced mix of sizes, price points, and use cases (decks, patios, balconies, camping). We may purchase products or accept samples; either way, all items face the same protocols.

Testing and Verification Our reviews are grounded in measurable outcomes: particulate levels, heat maps, surface temperatures, clearances, noise, setup/cleanup time, and cost-per-hour. We disclose test conditions and any deviations from our standard methods. See “How We Test” for full methodology.

Ratings and Recommendations Scores reflect neighbor-friendliness, safety margins, comfort, usability, and durability. We call out strong and weak fits by scenario (e.g., composite deck under pergola, windy patios, small balconies) and provide pass/fail checklists aligned with common code patterns.

Updates and Corrections We revisit content when products change, new data emerges, or regulations shift. If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and note the change. Send corrections to [email protected] with supporting details.

Conflicts of Interest Team members disclose any relationships that could reasonably affect coverage. Individuals with conflicts do not participate in related testing or recommendations.

Samples and Returns Accepting a sample does not guarantee coverage or a positive review. When feasible, we return samples after testing. If a sample remains for long-term durability checks, we disclose it.

Affiliate Disclosure We participate in affiliate programs. If you purchase through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate status does not influence our testing, scoring, or product selection. Links are added after editorial decisions and labeled where required.

Sponsored Content We do not publish pay-to-play reviews. Any sponsored content (if ever offered) would be clearly labeled and kept separate from reviews and guides.

Reader Feedback and User Data We welcome reader insights and field reports that can improve accuracy. Personal information submitted to us is handled under our Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal data.

AI and Automation We may use automation to assist with data organization and error checking, but all recommendations, scores, and final copy are reviewed and approved by humans.
